6 Reasons to Join Our Multi-Farm CSA
Support Family Farms
The CSA model helps to keep sustainable farming a viable way of life for small-scale family farms that are increasingly threatened by large-scale agribusiness. Family farms that work with LFH, farm an average of 3-4 acres of land.
At the grocery store, organically grown produce is often marked up 50-150% and little to none is grown locally. The CSA model connects people directly to local farmers, therefore, the prices you receive are more comparable to wholesale pricing than grocery store high retail rates.
Carry On the Farming Tradition
Farming is a tradition in Northeastern PA and Upstate NY and has been inherited by many of the farmers who work with LFH. There are also many younger farmers who wish to carry on this tradition. By purchasing a CSA share you help ensure that this tradition can be passed down to future generations of family farms.
Eat Healthy Food
The produce we offer is grown on some of the best soils in our region, mainly because of the practices used by the family farms we work with. By purchasing a CSA share with LFH, you and your family make a commitment to eat fresh and local practically year-round. Increasing your daily consumption of fresh produce is proven to reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and type two diabetes while giving you the boost of energy needed to face the day-to-day.
Support Sustainable Farming
Farms that work with LFH use sustainable farming practices, we seek relationships with family farms that employ agricultural practices that help preserve our incredible natural resources.
Reduce Trips to the Grocery Store
Another perk of getting a CSA share is that you have access to many other local farm fresh foods through our Online Marketplace. Now, you can add more carrots, an extra roast, some honey or even a case of kombucha.
